About

Welcome to the Shoreline Seniors Golf Association website. If you are new to the group or thinking of joining up, let's address some obvious questions. To play golf with this ragtag band of hackers you don't have to live on the Shoreline, you don't have to be a Senior (although it helps), and you certainly don't have to be a competent golfer. Our group is extremely informal. We play Tuesday mornings at various courses in the "local area." Local area is generally in and around Portland, although we will venture out to Wallingford, Southington, Hebron, Hartford etc. Carpooling is certainly encouraged.

We do require a $30 dues per year to cover the cost of maintaining the website and purchasing awards and prizes presented at the end of the season.

Getting back to the informal part;

  • We don't use handicaps
  • We don't even report scores (Except at the Club Campionship)
  • Most important, we get together for lunch and a beer after the round
  • We all pretty much stink at golf
  • We play the "Relaxed Rules" of golf (see below)

Relaxed Rules

Not that we pay a lot of attention to rules, but the Shoreline Seniors Golf League fully endorses and embraces the Relaxed Rules of golf. This is a common sense set of rules which are intended to make the game more enjoyable and reasonable for amateur golfers in a congenial environment.

  1. The maximum score on any hole is double par (i.e. 6 on par 3s, 8 on par 4s)

  2. All penalties are one stroke, including out of bounds, water and lateral hazards, lost ball and unplayable lie. Drop a ball near where the original was lost and play on.

  3. Two minutes is the maximum time to look for your ball. If the ball cannot be found in two minutes proceed under Rule 2 above.

  4. You may "roll the ball over" a few inches in the fairway.

  5. Unfortunate lies: With your playing partners’ consent, balls may be dropped out of divots or footprints, away from tree roots and any other dangerous lies.

  6. Putts may be conceded with your playing partners’ consent.

  7. There are no equipment restrictions, including number of clubs.

  8. When in doubt, use common sense and fairness.
